Winter Activities For Outside!

Brrrr. It's winter. Bundle up and go get some rosy cheeks, these activities will keep you active, and that will keep you warm. (Also check out the Winter Sports section for more winter activities.)

Enjoy!

Winter activities with a link have been featured on the It's All Kid's Play blog. These activities may have a photo on the blog as well as more detailed instructions than are shown here.

P.S. Wondering where a favourite activity went? The site is undergoing some changes and some of the activities have been temporarily shelved. Check back to see what's in the works.

Bundle Up!

  • Make snow angels
Lay on your back in the snow and swing your arms and legs back and forth in the snow. Stand up and look at your angel in the snow.

  • Catch a snowflake on your tongue

  • Find two snowflakes that are the same
Can you find one? Experts say there are no two snowflakes that are exactly the same.

  • Build a snow fort / Igloo

  • Go winter camping

  • Go for a sleigh ride

  • Build a chair in the snow

  • Go sledding / tobogganing

  • Build tunnels in hard snowdrifts
Make sure the drifts are very, very hard, otherwise they could fall in on you and leave you buried in the snow. If you aren't sure about a drift, ask an adult.

  • Buy some flowers
Have the winter blues? Some nice flowers might help. You don’t have to spend a lot to get some nice flowers that will perk up you and your family.

  • Build a snowman

  • Crack the ice on top of mud puddles
In the fall and spring you can crack the top of mud puddles when they freeze.
Safety First:  Make sure that the mud puddles are not deep because the water will be very cold! Do NOT do this on ponds or lakes.
