About the Site and Jean playground

Jean

Hello From Jean!

My daughter (my son is still a little young) and I have enjoyed testing the activities for this site--we hope you enjoy them too!

How The Site Came To Be

When Jean Oram's daughter was a year old, she began compiling a list of things for her daughter to do for when the inevitable came: "Mom, I'm bored."

Within days, Jean had over 700 activities listed in her notebook. Although her list got large rather quickly, it wasn't a big surprise to those who knew Jean as a kid. When her friends would come to her with those dreaded words on their lips, "I'm bored", she'd quickly whip up a list of activities for the group to choose from. After creating the list for her daughter, Jean decided this list of activities needed some organization. So she typed them up and put them in her computer. Then she forgot all about it for a few years.

These days, with families facing fewer resources, Jean decided it was time to share her simple, cheap and creative ways of passing time. (And yes, many of these activities help children develop skills like cooperation, creative problem solving, math, literacy, creativity, insight into the world around them as well as motor skills making them not only fun, but educational.)

In a world where children grow up so quickly and the art of childhood is being lost, I hope that this website helps you and your family slow the pace and rediscover the simple joys of being (or watching) a child at play. There is a whole new world waiting at your children's fingertips.

Enjoy!
Jean

P.S. If you have a favourite activity you'd like to share or simply drop me a line, by all means, do so! I'd love to hear from you.
